Search for Truth 1

life, eternal life, in the fellowship of the risen Christ. By faith alone mankind
can receive God's amazing mercy offered in Christ; but this faith is not
merely believing with the mind -it includes trusting Christ with the heart
and committing one's will to Him. There is no question of Christ's
atonement setting individuals free to go and sin again, as some have said;
they are new people and no longer desire to do so.
New life in Christ involves receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit who
enters the believer's life and gradually produces the qualities of Jesus Christ:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control. This involves the active cooperation of the believer through
worship with other Christians, personal prayer and the intelligent study
of, and meditation on, the Bible (not the mere repetition of its words). The
Holy Spirit strengthens the believer for Christ's service and gives special
gifts e.g. the gifts of healing, teaching, prophecy etc., which are used to
help others and build Christian fellowship.
binally, one day, as Jesus promised, ~od
will intervene again in human
history through the return of Jesus Christ in glory, putting an end to the
present age, so that the world we now know will vanish away. The Christian
looks forward, then or after his own death, to life in the immediate presence
of God unhindered by the presence and power of sin.
